Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to read this site and use its tools, whatever device, browser or assistive technology they use.

Our commitment

Our target for this website is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We treat accessibility as part of building each page, not as a later check, and we fix the problems we find or are told about.

We have not had the site independently audited, so we do not claim full conformance. This statement describes what we do and where we know we fall short.

What we do

  • Semantic HTML. Pages use real headings in order, with one main heading per page, plus landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, lists, tables with header cells, and labelled form fields.
  • Keyboard navigation. Everything interactive can be reached and used with a keyboard. The header menus open when a link inside them receives focus, and on small screens the menu is a standard disclosure control. Focused elements show a visible outline.
  • Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, the site turns its animations and transitions off.
  • Contrast and text. We choose text and background colours to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios, and text can be resized or zoomed without losing content.
  • Pages that work without scripts. Navigation works without JavaScript, and the free tools render their form on the page before any script runs.
  • Plain language. We write in short, direct sentences and explain the arithmetic behind every tool's result.
  • Responsive layout. Pages reflow to fit small screens; wide tables scroll within their own box rather than the page.

Known limitations

  • Maps and charts in the staff console. Our internal console includes interactive maps and charts that are not fully accessible to screen reader and keyboard users. The console is used only by our own staff and is not part of the public site.
  • Third-party content. Pages we link to on other websites are outside our control and may not meet the same standard.
  • Older articles. We review blog posts as we update them; an older post may have an image or table that falls short until we get to it. Tell us and we will fix it first.

Report a problem

If something on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, please email hello@alumic.agency. It helps to include:

  • the address of the page;
  • what you were trying to do and what went wrong;
  • the browser, device and any assistive technology you use, if you are comfortable sharing it.

We will reply within 5 business days. If we cannot fix the problem straight away, we will tell you when we expect to, and give you the information or help you were looking for another way in the meantime.

Other ways to reach us

If you would rather not use the contact form, email works for everything: questions about our services, a copy of any page in another format, or help using one of the free tools.
